‘Fortnite’ Season 4 Is Live – Here’s Everything New, Including Map Changes, Battle Pass, Trailer, And More

Update 9/18 below. This article was originally published on September 16.

After five hours of downtime, Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 4 is online. Servers are back up and running and players are diving in from the Battle Bus to battle it out on a map with some pretty big changes.

Season 4 is called Paradise, which is a weird title for a season about a mysterious all-consuming substance called Chromium that takes place on Halloween. Here’s everything you need to know.

chrome paradise

We’ll start with the story trailer which introduces us to the strange new metallic liquid called Chrome that has begun to devour the map and the Seven, and introduces Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) as a Paradigm:

We’re also introduced to a mysterious red-haired villain known as The Herald at the end of the trailer:

Chrome will play a major role this season. You can transform yourself and structures into Chrome and walk through Chrome walls, which you can create into enemy structures to make them penetrable.

While transforming into Chrome, you are immune to fire and fall damage for a short time and when you sprint, you transform into a Chrome blob. You can also perform an air dash, which allows you to pass through walls (so you can pass through a Chrome wall if you’re not Chrome, and any other structure if you’re are Chromium.

New Weapons + Returning Weapons

Two new weapons were introduced in Season 4. Unsurprisingly, they’re both Chrome-based.

EvoChrome Rifle

EvoChrome Burst Rifle

Returning and unvaulted weapons:

  • hand gun
  • First shotgun
  • Lever Action Rifle
  • Rapid Fire SMG
  • Suppressed submachine gun
  • Ranger Assault Rifle
  • Hammer Assault Rifle
  • Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)
  • Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper
  • Grenade
  • firefly jar
  • harpoon gun
  • Shadow Tracker (exotic weapon)
  • The Dub (exotic weapon)
  • Arrow Sniper Rifle (Exotic Weapon)
  • Boogie Bomb (technically not a weapon but sounds like one)
  • Shockwave Grenade (also technically not a weapon but here it is)

Sniper Rifles have also received a buff, making the long game much more viable this season:

  • Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper – increased damage and headshot multiplier
  • Hunting rifle – increased damage and headshot multiplier
  • Automatic sniper rifle – increased damage and headshot multiplier
  • Lever Action Rifle – increased damage and headshot multiplier
  • Removed Sniper Rifle – increased damage
  • Semi-automatic sniper rifle – increased damage
  • railway gun – increased damage
  • Bolt-action sniper rifle – increased damage
  • heavy sniper rifle – increased headshot multiplier
  • Storm Scout Sniper Rifle – increased headshot multiplier
  • Arrow sniper rifle – increased explosive damage

Season 4 Battle Pass

Six new skins are joining the Season 4 Battle Pass and one “secret” skin. Read all about them and how to unlock them here. The Battle Pass again includes 100 tiers of content to unlock using Battle Stars, and includes gliders, sprays, emotes, pickaxes, and more.

New Map + Map Changes

Condo Canyon has taken off, becoming Cloudy Condos. You can use D-Launchers to propel yourself to floating (or building) platforms.

The other major new point of interest is the Saint of the Herald:

Here’s what the new map looks like. You can see it’s gotten a bit autumnal, and now we have four quite distinct biomes, with winter snow, green fields, a desert, and the autumn biome.

New items like the Chrome Splash, which can turn you or walls into Chrome, have joined the game. There are now also safes that you can unlock with special keys found around the map in chests etc. Low-security safes require a key; High Security Chests require two and offer better loot. When you find a key, the vault locations are displayed on the map. The days when Epic Games made this kind of thing a real challenge are gone, alas.

Epic Games has also added new slide-kick action, Season 4 Challenges, and various other gameplay and balance adjustments.

That is just about everything ! Good luck with your Victory Royales, young Padawans! I’ll see you in heaven!

Original story

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 lasts most of the summer. In fact, the season started on June 5, two weeks before the summer solstice. It ends, just days before the official start of fall.

We got some clues about the new season, which is called Paradise, although it seems like a dark and tongue-in-cheek title. While Season 3’s Vibin moniker gave it fun summer vibes, Paradise is an eerie setting for what seems to be a very spooky season.

The weird liquid chrome is present in every teaser image so far, and it looks like our heroes – and the map – might be getting sucked under the goo and oily stuff.

We’ll know more soon enough. The end of season 3 is almost here and season 4 is just around the corner. Here’s what you need to know.

Season 3 officially ends on Sunday, September 18 around 2 a.m. ET. That’s 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 17 if you’re on Pacific Time. This breaks down at 6am UTC on Sunday the 18th.

From there, we can usually expect three or four hours of downtime depending on the update, and of course you’ll need to update your game after Epic Games has done its server-side magic. .

Season 4 will kick off directly after the servers come back online, so you should be up and running first thing Sunday morning when you wake up with bright eyes and a bushy tail and ready to nab some Victory Royales.

We’ll be covering the new Battle Pass, map changes, challenges, and everything else happening here at Forbes Games. I’m still hoping Epic brings back some decent challenges and fun stuff like loading screens and hidden stars or coins, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up.

Good luck, young padawans. follow me on Twitter or Facebook for more Fortnite Season 4 cover.

Update #1

Here’s what we know about Chapter 3 Season 4 so far based on leaks, rumours, teasers, and official announcements from Epic Games.

Battle Pass skins

Gwen Stacy

We know for sure that there will be a Gwen Stacy Spider-Man skin that appears to have the cool cel-shaded animation used in the marvelous Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse movie (one of my favorite Spidey movies of all time).

Goth Meowscles

We also know there’s a Goth Meowscles skin, perfect for Halloween, although the “muscles” in the cat’s name seems like a misnomer at this point. Goth Meowscles isn’t ripped in any sense.

A third skin sporting chrome hands could also be part of the Battle Pass, thanks to what we’ve seen in teasers (but take that with a grain of salt, naturally).

Finally, popular streamer SypherPK is also getting its own Icon Series skin, though it’s not part of the Battle Pass. Mirroring the new skin, there’s also a new sniper AR rifle or tactical rifle of some sort, so expect that to be one of the new weapons in Chapter 4 Season 4 .

Other changes we can expect are lots and lots of chrome on the map, including chrome tornadoes that might look more like landmarks than moving weather events. We should also see a bunch of balloons floating around the map.

Patch 22.00

The new 22.00 patch will drop when the game goes down on Sunday, but at the time of this writing, we don’t know the exact size of the update on each platform. I’ll update this post once we know.

Live event

Unfortunately, there will be no live event to close season 3 and kick off season 4, which is a real shame. Fortnite Live Events are some of the best and a real highlight every season. Hopefully we’ll have a big live event to wrap up Season 4 in a few months.

Fortnite Chapter 4, Season 4 is almost here!
